Fishing with my father from the shore from 3.30 to six a.m. He caught two nice perches, but I had a total zero! Only one pike broke my line. The weather was ok, the conditions like air pressure were fine, still a poor result. Perhaps the reason was, that a man living near by tested his car, and the noises were terrible

We tried everything: motor oil, fl green, yellow and white colors. Almost all the contacts with perches we had with motor oil. We saw large schools of perches further away hunting small fishes on the surface, but we could not fish those places, because of the holiday houses.

Fishes were in the hitting mood, but our place was too near this garage. Sometimes fishing is like that...

The air pressure was 1016 mBar, so perches and zanders were near by the surface and in shallow shoreline waters. So did those hunting schools of perches.

Ounasriver and Ohtacreek, in August
Kari S
+ family

Lauri, now already 2 years and 7 months took his mother and daddy to fish in Lapland in Ounasriver at the end of august. So this river was impossible to fish, because the water level was high. You should have climbed to top of pine, if you wanted to make nice backcasts. Despite this conditions we examined placed for coming summers. Lauri was eager to fish everywhere. Long autotrips seemed not to tire this young fisher at all, when we had been at home two days, he said, that he wants to Lapland fishing trouts. While driving home we visited in Iiriver tributary Ohtacreek to have some possibility to flyfish and catch some graylings. Once again the creek was ok.  When you served a dry fly correctly freely swimming, almost in every cast your fly was sipped from the surface. I have to say, that Ohtacreek is one of the most suitable places for family fishing. There Lauri was striken by rod jealousy: He wanted to have own long rod, he told, that his own 2,8 feet rod is too short. His parents had caught their fishes with much longer rods. We had to explain to him daily, that he has to grow up more to be able to fish with longer rods. Let us see, when he has earned his longer rod. You can not blame him of not practising. Daily on our yard lines are whistling, when Lauri practises with his short equipments.

Ohtacreek is a nice flyfishing place. Tiina fishing.

Even a hard fisherman need a while resting. Lauri having his day naps in outdoor shelter.

Jigging from shore fron noon to five a.m. I caught only one legal size zander and three pikes. Others had a bad day today, too. water temperature was 13,5 centigrades.Funny, that in the Lake Matilda water is cooler, perhaps the heavy winds in last days have mixed up the waters.

Pargas 26.9.
SFM-toimitus
and Timo

Our idea was to jig zanders till the darkness falls. We were on the sea at two a.m., and lifted the boat on trailer at eight. Fishes were in very careful mood. Between six and seven o'clock there was a small top of hits of perches. Even then we had to serve fire pumpkin colored grub with smelt piece as extra attractor. We made a bit under hundred perches to visit the boat, but only twelwe were in size to take with (=+250g). Timo caught two legal size zanders and one minor, SFM-toimitus got only one small. So our project was really no success. Of six pikes only one managed to break the line, lucky the was in its jaws only.

Lohenrengas  25.9.

, Sauli, Bende, Casse and Jesse

fishing with children in Lohenrengas. The unsteady weather was perhaps the reason why we go to fish almost alone. After some lures left on trees and in the bottom I chanded to the rods floats and worm baits, in which rainbows fell in love. Some fishes we caught with lures, too. rainbows were mostly in 500-1000 g sizes. With Benjamin we made a real double. We fished from a casting landing: I caught with small Rattlin Rapilla a trout 1,5 kg and  Benjamin fought at the same time with a kilos rainbow with his Shakespear's Kid Set.

Each of the boys caught at least two fishes, so our trip was a fishing success. This place fits nicely for fishing with children. There is not too long hikings and the area is built ok. The outdoor shelter of  Kivijärvi is good fishing base. We thank our host and hostess, who immediately took care of us, when they saw our fishing younsters.

The Lake Matilda 25.9.
JoniS

I fished from two to five a.m. I rowed and trolled nearby the surface with two rods. The water is now only  12 centigrades. The lake gave no fishes this time. Perhaps one reason was my low motivation. My GPS showed, that the rowing speed was only about two knots, so heavy were the winds. Heavy rainshowers wre perhaps one reason, why fishes were not active on the surface. The echoload showed, that fishes were in the middle waters.  Some baitfishers were on the shores, too, but even their results were poor. A high air pressure would be nice now!

Aland, Marsund 24.9.
SFM-toimitus
, Markku and Pingo

Fishing by the bridge of Marsund from nine to eleven a.m. We tried to catch zanders, but the weather was too sunny. We caught some tens of small under 300 g perches, but that was all. Over ten other boats were fishing in this area. Pingo made about ten fishes to visit his hand in half an hour wearing his city clothes and fishing from the shore rock!

Aland, Ango 23.9.
SFM-toimitus, Mikko, Markku, Pingo and Vidar

The weather was again OK, even too calm for pikefishing. Still we caught 18 fishes with flies and lures. The biggest was a bit under 3 kg. A real triple was made, too = three fishers had a  pike on at the same time. Perchfishing was yet better, all 5 of us had a fish on simultaneusly! We took up about 50 perches, biggest ones 600 g. Our supper was yellow fish soup.

Pingo and a perch, which must be fried in the middle of the pan.

Aland, Slemmern 22.9.
SFM-toimitus, Mikko, Markku and Uffe

Fishing from 9 am to 5 pm. We made about 500 perches and 11 pikes to visit our boat. Brown and pearly white grubs and greenish shads were hot. We got over ten perches over half a kilo, Mikko 820 g and SFM-toimitus 750 g. Mikko`s 3 kg pike gave a good fight and run like a train. Perchfiles made in oven with cream and cheese was a delicate supper!

We took some tens of perches for our supper.

Aurariver, Halinen 19.9.
JaniO

Teaching flyfishing in Halinen rapids in Turku day festivals. A young girl became evidently a flyfisher. Her elder brother asked for tutoring, but the rod stayed in her hands. She casted immediately like an old experienced flyfisher. I fished a little bit, too, and caught and released a 40 cm seatrout. Ville from Fishing Institute caught a same size of fish, too. His fish was more silvery as mine.

Pargas 19.9.
JakeK
and Peuris

Fishing from ninea.m. to three p.m. During this time 35 pikes visited our boat. Four of them were over three kilos, the biggest  5,5 kg. Naturally even bigger fishes hit on our lures :-). Pikes took lures a bit carefully, all the fishes, which visited our boat were poorly hooked, and we had a lot of hits and pushes and following pikes. Most of the fishes we caught under the wind in front of rushes.. Hot lures were 15cm Nils Master wobblers, 18 cm Bombers, Kaappari wobblers and 14 cm  magnum. Best colors were pink, king, seacolor, f-negative and red head. Specially pink and seacolor were hot. Perches were missing once again. We should perhaps first to catch bleaks as baits like Tapsan reported in saturday.

So, do not buy digital weight of DePaulin! What will you do with a fishweight, which does not tolerate water???

The Gate of Pargas 18.9.
SFM-toimitus,
Timo and Jussi

Our meaning was to fish zanders with grubs and baitfish them with bleaks, too. We caught bleaks quite easily from the flap bridge of Pargas., so we were on the waters a bit before noon. The southern area of the Gate was difficult. We caught some peches here and there, but found no eager schools of them. The forecast of Vip Weather Service of Foreca was totally wrong: All afternoon wind was blowing heavily and rainshowers were like in tropics. Wind and high waves made jigging and baitfishing difficult. Timo, anyway, made a two kilos pike to visit our boat. The fight was so hard, that Monnin kevlar-leader was so broken, that there was no use to try it to next pike.

n early evening hours the weather got better and we moved to northern waters of the Gate. We found active fishes on a underwater, 10 m terrace. We caught perches with baitfishes and brown grub jigs with a piece of fish on them. Without baits happened nothing.  we caught perches in size +250 g about ten kilos, the biggest were over one pounders. Finally we caught our project fishes, zanders, too. In late evening hours we caught four fishes 40-43 cm. Pikes got active, too. We released several fishes in size 1-2 kg. Timo had a train on, we could not see the fish, but evidently it was a several kilos pike. SFM-toimitus had a id about one and half kilo, Timo and SFM-toimitus caught both breams about 800 g, Timo's fish had even swallowed the grub properly. In all a nice fishing day, even if me an old specimen fisher had in these conditions to humble as  a normal mixed species fisherman.

Karkkila 18.9.
OlliT

For a long time I visited Karkkila Rapids. I fished the Rapaid of Pitkala from the parking place to the upper parts of rapids. Fishes were missing compared with earlier trips this year. I caught about ten small graylings, one 35 cm fish and two trouts  20 and 25 cm. One rainbow (1,5 kg) and the biggest grayling I caught with Bead Head Pupa fly. At the end of theday I made a couple of casts with dry flies, and the result was two 25 cm graylings. The Fishing Polices were on the move. They asked my licences twice!

Lohenrengas 16.9.
SFM-toimitus and Markku

We wanted to take examples from what fishes eat in pompiainen and Kivijarvi. heavy rain and wind shut the mouths of fishes for about two hours. When it was calmer fishes were active even on surface. Markku fished with Jensen Insect spinner and  Rasnen 5 cm spoon in color white-black-red and made 8 fishes to visit his net. It was a surprise, that normally hot Bete Lotto-spinner gave only careful hits. SFM-toimitus tested the colors of Mini Leeches (# 12): White gave some hits, peacock and yellow got to swim in peace, but with black I had to loose six rainbows from my net with about 30 casts.

We open one trout and one rainbow, which Markku had caught. The rainbow was about one and half kilo = from the year 2002 and the trout about one kilo. The stomach of the trout was totally empty, the rainbow had some vegetation particles, so it had feeded some time ago with caddis larvas, but otherwise it had been on diet. We were surprised of the results, but the research goes on!

Lohenrengas 12.9.
NikolaiH
, Olli and co

Fishing with SFM-toimitus and SOME others from the Teijo Village Assosiation, too. I counted the cars in the parking place: modest 27 pcs! That is nice, that people have found this excellent fishing place. Flyfishing was like before, small Leeches and small diving beetle imitations were effective. I caught 18 fishes. They were mostly rainbows, but I succeeded to catch a handsome over 1,5 kg trout, too.

Toysa, Rautiolampi 11.9.
SFM-toimitus
& co

We fished the morning till noon in the private lake of Brothers  Keskinen. They had stocked fishes into the pond last time about a year ago. We saw tailing rainbows every now and then, and Jari and Juha caught a fish each. Also we took small pikes away from the water some pcs. I fished only with flies and had four hits on Leech and three times a fish tried on a dry fly. In one year rainbows had learned to feed quite carefully.

Virrat, Herraskoski 10.9.
SFM-toimitus
& co

We were many guys to fish this dry rapid area in the afternoon. Jari and Harri made minor trouts to visit their nets and released them. Otherwise the catch was perches, ids, bleaks and pikes.. Specially many pikes were in the upper parts of rapids, but we had to leave to have supper before the hottest hitting time in sunset.

Pargas 10.9.
JarkkoK
and Peuris

Finally perches showed some kind of co-operation feelings in Pargas. After this evening trip we had in our bucket ten perches to make files, the biggest 580g. Still the fishes were not in real schools, but were on the familiar places. Greenish grubs were best colors. Pike were really hitting in sunset time. Peuris was leading already  6-0, when I believed that today is not the wobbler day. With Pearl Jak spoon I began to catch pikes, too, but did not catch his lead. All together we had 15 pikes, the biggest only 2.8 kg. Wobblers and spinnerbaits gave this time almost total nothing.

Pargas, Granvik and the Gate 9.9.
SFM-toimitus,
Timo, Timo, Antero and Folke

We found the baitfishes, bleaks, in the morning in Granvik and Bjorkholm. Perches were in poor hitting mood till noon, then we found co-operative fishes. There was no top hit, but we caught perches with bleak-baits evenly all day long. In early evening fire pumpkin colored grub began to take both perches and slowly presented jig gave 8 legal size zanders. Some longnoses visited our boatside , were they were offhooked. Biggest perches were about half a kilo.

Pretty perches and nice zanders bleeded in cold box on ices.

Muonio 8.9.
MarkkuM

With Lotto-spinner a mighty  2,5 kg trout and five nice graylings.

Lohenrengas 7.9.
SFM-toimitus
, Olli, Timo, Pete, Tawny and Maya

SFM-toimitus and Timo flyfished almost ten hours, Olli worked 8 hours like  Petejnda Tawnykin. The weather of the day was interesting: Heavy rainshower and quite cold and sunshine and warm. heavy wind spoiled a bit our flyfishing. The evening was a nice autumn sunset.

This long session, all day long, gave interesting information about, how fishes react in different flies. When raining they took dark, black, brown and olive, Leeches. In sunshine the flies should be smaller like nymphs, pupas and classic wet flies like Zulu. Pete landed and released many good fishes with bead head Zulu. In the evening worked large, number 6-8, light colored , almost fluorescent white marabou-  and flashaboustreamers.

Timo had to tire up this over three pounder rainbow over fifteen minutes. Finally the fish was so tired, that it ended to dinner table of family Kilpelainen.

The active fishes were often just between the rushes. Timo had many pretty fishes just dapping the fly with rod length line beside the vegetation.

All members of our group caught fishes exept Maya. She every now and then eagerly waved her hands in her carriage like in flyfishing, but we have not succeeded to build a flyrod small enough to a six week old baby girl. Anyway she will soon need her own flyfishing equipments! The biggest, over two kilos rainbow  was caught by Papa Pete, Two trouts in the same class visited our nets, too.

Taivassalo 3.-5.9.
NikolaiH

I spent quite a lot of hours fishing on the sea from friday to sunday.

In Lehmankurkku area there were a kind of traffic rush. I counted 13 other boats there, so I did not have to fish alone. Fishes seemed to be in the mood, so often I saw rods to bend, specially those short icefishing jigging rods. Some really hot hits were not on, perhaps the warm sea water was the reason. I got so many perches, that I had to start  making files when got back to ur holiday house. I flyfishes as some extra even 6 pikes. For along time, that was really fun. The best fly was a perch colored slinky streamer.

Lohenrengas 5.9.
JaniO

Flyfishing on both of the lakes in the afternoon., and caught 5 rainbows and one trout. fishes were not so active on the surface as earlier. Anyway some of the fishes took flies just under  the surface.

The Pike Competition of Brando 3.-4.9.
LC Brando-Kumlinge

Totally  there were 107 participating boats with maximum crew of three fishermen
in the competition. In friday 407,86 kg pikes (minimun 60 cm) were caught, the biggest was 5,44 kg, which was the winning fish of the biggest fish competition, too. Perches(min 30 cm) were caught in the first day 9,09 kg and the second 5,83 kg. The pike catch of the second day was 349,99 kg, the biggest of the day 5,05 kg.

1.   Arwidson / Tyfoon       63,36 kg (They won the biggest fish competition, too )
2.   Holmberg Toni           32,33 kg
3.   Team Andberg           25,27 kg
4.   Jansson Tommy
5.    Fagerlund Pernilla

Brando, Ava 4.9.
PasiP,
Osku  and  Mikko

Fishing two hours in the morning gave about thirty perches in class 200-300 g. Again today the brownish grubs were good, glass clear shrimptails were catching, too. We have to go home the  World Cup of Icehockey is waiting.

Brando, Ava 3.9.
OskuG
, Mikko and Pasi

Jigging perches by the Ava bridge. The result of the day was a cold box (30 l) full of fishes medium 250-300 g. Pasi caught the biggest 430 g. Mikko's personal perch record is now 390 g. We waited the evening hittime in vain. The boats of the Brando Pike Competition disturbed our fishing a bit. Brownish grubs were the hot lures.

Southern Pejmar 2.9.
TimoK

The sea was almost calm as a mirror, and the water temperature was still about 18 centigrades, so there were a lot of blue algae floating in he water. Perches were in unwilling hitmood. Fishing with grubs gave only some bites and trebbles. In bleaks as baits fishes had more interest. To avoid small pikes I fished deep in ten meters water. Perhaps that was why the medium size of perches was good. I caught several over half a kilo fishes and no fishes under 300 g.

The biggest perch of the day made the weight show this kind of figures.

Pernio, Lohenrengas 1.9.
SFM-toimitus,
Folke and co

The rainy morning made me nad Folke to change plans and not to go to sea fishing. Lohenrengas served to us a good alternative, so we were fishing there at three thirty p.m. Folke caught at about fifth cast with Kuusamo Rasanen copper colored spoon a 1,1 kilos trout in the Pond Pompiainen. We fished there two hours, Folke made some rainbows to visit the net and SFM-toimitus did the same with Leech fly. In the evening we vsited the lake Kivijärvi, which is the larger pond of Lohenrengas. SFM-toimitus flyfished a bit over kilos rainbow and a nice trout.

                Folke's first from Pompiainen.

The boys: Jani, Nikolai ja Olli were once again training flyfishing. Everyone of them made several fishes to visit their nets.Nikolai took one rainbow to test the taste of fishes. Its stomach was full of small diving beetles and other water insects, too.
