Flyfishing Kukonkoski rapid area with 24 hours licence.
Water was already 15 centigrades and going down. We
concentrated in fishing rainbows, which this time was
not easy. We had few fishcontacts and landed fishes were
even fewer. Jori was the one who caught something: a 1,5
kg rainbow, which took light streamer. I had one same
caliber fish on but I lost it. We even woke up in the
morning at four o'clock, but no more happenings. Camping
in nature is always a refreshing experience, though
fishes are passive.

In Lieksarivers downer parts the season began 1.6. , two
landed fishes 3,3 kg and 2,3 kg.

Fishing 19.30-02.00 o'clock. 35 legal size fishes, the
biggest 1,5 kg +too much minors. Bude scored me 6-0, he
had one special orange color grub, which I did not have.

fishes as I.

Eveningfishing with bellyboat. Heavy wind made fishing a
bit difficult. I had to drive around by car a while, but
finally I found a suitable place to fish. It
is difficult to fish with bellyboat, when wind teases you
all the time. It is
almost impossible to move against the wind and waves.
casting was a nasty thing to do, too. (Should I have more
tutoring?). Late in the evening I started fishing perches,
biggest about 20 cm. Total saldo was one 70 cm pike, two
smaller ones I reeleased with long fighting techniques (=I
lost them). Flyfishing In the Baltic Sea is anyway fun to
do. Bellyboat is a lonely man's rider. Remember how fun
as kid it
was to swim with a inner tire of car . Same thing now as
then: when your lips are blue, you have to come up!

Fishing Tainioriver lower parts. results: One rainbow and
three small trouts. A lot of insects like mayflies in traffic
sitting on the carhood and stones. Water conditions ok and
color clear.No signs of bigger trouts.

One day trip to test my new flyrod. Streamers were hot flies.
We caught 21 pcs rainbows, although we sat by the fire and
grilled sausages and enjoyed a sunny day. Four of the fishes
we took with. Some smaliie trouts we caught, too. We heard
that big trouts are already in the river. The biggest one now
caught was 2065gr.

Started fishing at eight in the evening. 18 legal size zanders
the biggest 780 g (Petrus). White, yellow and green grubs and
shads were hitting lures. Back home at half past one in the
night.

Fishing 19.30.-01.30. Quite a heavy wind, but not too
irritating. 25 legal size zanders, biggest ones about 900 g +
about 30 minors. Perhaps we could have caught more pcs, but
we tested jigs. When the right one was on the line you could
catch a fish even in four casts in the row. Then we canged
the color. The best colors were irritating, phosphor and
fluorescent.

No fishes in New Jerseyssä, but luckily I got my kajak season
opened. The place was Sandy Hook. Three hours of paddling gave
as result only next morning pain in my shoulders.Anyway it was
fun to float again, and the weather was nice. On the ocean
there were waves about 4.5 meters, so I could not fish there.
I heard that now in Jersey area there are no fishes, though a
week ago they caught blueses everywhere and with all possible
lures. Again this was my normal fishing luck...

We put the boat on the water at Teersalo harbour. We
were at the hot spot at half past five in the evening. We
fished intensively till half past one in the night. We took
with 21 zanders 40 cm or +. Markku had with grubjig and Jani
with fly about one kilos fishes. Berkley 4 inches grubs
in glow color and Storm pearly Shads in 3 and 4" were the
hottest lures. Neighbouring boat had to land a about 1,5 kg
fish. Bellyboat match Finland-Slovakia was won by Jaro (SVK)
16 against Jani's (FIN) 4 fishes.

Waterlevel in optimum and a lot of stocked rainbows in the
river. Mostly they are small, the ones I caught were 400-500g.
Two I lost. I fished daytime, morning and evening hittimes
perhaps give more happenings. Water +13 centigrades and
small mayflies flying.

19.00-00.00 o'clock. Not so good. The weather was good till
eleven, then wind turned to east and no more hits. We came to
harbour just before the rain falled. 9 legal size zanders of
which 8 just about, and I had 5,66 kg mamafish. We
weighted it with digital and released her nicely back to her
own elements. That felt good, when seeing the fish swim away.
My knees were trebbling at least five minutes. Minors we
caught about twenty.
PS. I perhaps would not remember the big zander, if I had
taken it with me. Pitty we did not have camera with.

Fishing 20.30-00.30 o'clock. Still the hit is careful, there
are fishes in this place, but are not yet angry enough to hit.
I think the water must warm up a bit, then the big mamas come
to spawn and the males activate themselves. OK, Mikko had a
nice 3,96 kg mamazander. The stomach was still hard, so it was
perhaps only checking the spawning places. We caught 13 other
legal size fishes and about 15 minors.

The season is opened here in Boston, my rodhand had problems
without practising. Somehow I felt frustuated to move to totally
new places here in Boston. In New Jersey I had learned the places
and the basic tricks for fishing. So I had to find a fishing store.
I bought some small equipments and teh began asking fishing tips.
Finally they showed to me a place called Walleston Beach on the
map and even told how to drive there. A while I sook the place,
but found it quite quickly. A round trip walking the area and then
to job. My back began mourning already after some casts with
number ten rod, the lack of practising, but I went on
fishing for some hours. The place was just by ahighway, there was
arisk to hook a car with backcast.
Then I found a place, where a small river runs to the sea. There
was many fishermen, mostly rodandreel fishermen. They told that
some small fishes were already caught. I found a place for my feet
and began fishing. Fishing a while I had a small striper on. I
landed and released it. The opening of this season was positive
experience. I had on 5 stripers, of which 3 visited my
hands. All were small, so I did not yet have possibility to test
the knot between flyline and backing.

The hard work in flyfishing in the
baltic begins to give results. This time me and Vesa; 16 years;
went to fishing in Mosala area. We had as company 8 slovakian
students and their teacher Jaro. I was a bit afraid when seeing
these middle-europians to go to the open sea-area. everything went
ok. Everyone of our guesta made personal pike records, half of
them with flies.

Already the first session in saturday morning gave ideas for the
tactics in this weekend. Other groups in this holiday village
fished traditionally trolling and casting with wobblers, we
flyfished. Our results were much better than other groups.

The biggest flyfished pike was 6 kg and length exact one
meter. 3-5 kgs pikes visited our boats about twenty times. I
weighted my own two 3,9 kg pikes, mostly we only messured the
fishes. Jaro showed again with pcs fishes, and he even bettered
his record. Not yet one meter, but anyway 95 cm ++, we lost it
before got exact cms.
Flies were hot machines in the mornings and late in the evening.
They catch bigger pikes as other lures, too. In afternoon the best
lures were greenish wobblers and shad jigs in 15 cm.

Of course there was the highest flood now in Kynasjoki, when I had
my holiday on. It was really difficult to find casting places for
a flyrod, so much there waswater in the river. You had weight with
lead a lot to find the bottom. I had exactly one happening: pink-white
#2 streamer fooled a 1,8kg rainbow to hit in Kukonkoski.

It is now 2.41 o'clock, and I
decided to send my report immediately, otherwise I forget it. It
was really perfect weather for zander fishing, and the fishes
were in shallow water, too. We caught 24 legal size zanders and
minors about ten. The hit was all evening long quite careful,
fishes hanging on jigtails and a lot of hits not bites. The
biggest ones two pcs kilo and half and two one kilo fishes.

Fishing from 20.00 to 22.00. Zanders are not yet in shallow water.
Local fishermen told, that with long nets they have had quite nice
catches. So let us wait a couple of days. Some other places have
already given zanders to rod and reel fishermen, too.

The weather was ok, southwestern wind and sunshine. Totally 13
pikes, The biggest 4,2 kg and others 500-1500 g fishes. One
with Nils Masters wobbler others with Zalt. Some good contacts
with bigger ones, but they did not hold. They neede stopped
reeling and slow movements of wobblers. Apparently losse line
prevented the right timing of back strike. Fishes were in certain
pools, so the spawning is still on.

Boat Iiro and Iikka about 65 pikes, not really big ones. Blue and
white flies were hot. Fishes in really shallow water.

Fishing 10-14 o'clock. The morning was foggy and it rained more or
less.
6 pikes 500-2000 g with Zalt-wobblers.
I even caught 3 breams with ambulance colored Zalt. The first one
was ok, I have had with pikelures breams and flounders earlier,
too. Second and third went over my companions head. Breams about 600, 800 ja
1000 g. Finally, when it rained cats and dogs, we went home.
Tomorrow is a new day!

Monday was again a day for flyfishing pikes. Jaro had new ideas where
to fish. We found calm water, but a slow stream. I would have called
this place as dead water, but there we had happenings. Jaro had 5
pikes, me pike N. You had to retrieve flies very slowly over the
short rushes. We mostly fished fishes we saw.
Flyfishing in the baltic Sea is not only pikefishing. Jaro shouted:
Look a lot of Leuciscus idus - I answered typcally finnish way: Hah?
We changed flies and Jar showed with first cast what he had ment. That
was a id! I changed my fly, too, and a Rutilus rutilus, a roach.
Anyway I caught a couple of ids, too, and two breams. Really fun
flyfishing. We sailed with electric motor and served the flies to the
fishes we saw.
Even bream is a nice fish to flyfish!

Two of our club team members fished the same area as us in saturday.
Petri Kolehmainen had a nice 10.7 kg pike. If you look the picture you
find that releasing the fish was made correctly. Antti and Petri had a
6.7 kg pike, too. The hot lure was yellowZam-wobbler.Pikes were in the
hitting mood till early evening.

Sunday was the day, when Jaro finally had possibility to fullfill one
of his dreams. There was some luxus, too. Jaska was helping and
driving with electric motor. Fishing was ok, only pikes were reluctant
to hit on our flies. We saw several fishes. After 5 hours fishing we
both caught pikes to save us from NF.

Fishing whitefishes in friday and saturday evening. First-timers
caught nice 10 and 13 fishes per day. Saturday was pikefishing, too.
No big ones seen, but 7 pikes caught and released, the biggest one
four kilos. At 18.00 the hit was over like cut with knife, only one
smallie caught after that time.

Fishing whitefishes from six to one o'clock. SFM-toimitus 12 fishes, the
biggest one 920 g scaled and opened, Pena 6 fishes. SFM-toimitus used leafworms,
Pena clayworms. Extra catch over ten perches (max 150 g) and about
same amount roaches.

We began fishing at half past nine. First we had to show our
licences to the fishing guards. Last time this happened was year
1998. Everything was ok. Pikes were not in the hitting mood,
perhaps the reason was disturbed color of the water. Total catch 15
pikes the biggest ones 4,2 and
5,3 kg. Hot lures were Zalt, Nils Masters and Pig Jr jerk. We tried
to fish whitefishes, too, but no sign of the fishes in the old place.
Not asign of other salmonides either.

Our gruop was 3 rod and reel and 3 flyfishermen. The winds
turnned rapidly from north to east, clouds and rain we had enough.
Water temperature 3-7 C. Total catch was about hundred pikes, only
four we ate, others released.
Four biggest ones were caught with wobblers: 6,1- , 5,9- and 2 pcs 5,7kg.
Medium weight was a bit over two kilos. The biggest one caught with
fly was Tapsa Penttila's 5.1 kg. Only Olli had a seatrout on,
but lost it. I had a hit.
Olli and Tapsa took their fishes mainly with red and white and
greenish flies. My best fly was super-super rainbowtinsel (30 cm), and
specially blue and yellow fly tied with a new synthetic material (15
cm).

Pasi Antinmaa took a 12-15 kg tube (=pike) with dead undulate (=
a fly). Exact weight is still missing, their weight scale was too
small. The length 110 cm.

Flyfishing the rapid area, which is managed by The Flyfishing Club of
Viiala. I had a lot of happenings, I landed two rainbows and lost four
more. All the fishes were a bit under a kilo. Rain in some days time
had rised the water level, which is now almost like a small flood. It
does not still spoil the fishing. The rapid area is very clean, thanks
to the Fishing Club of Viiala!

Spending in the afternoon a couple of hours fishing baltic herrings in
rain and heavy wind. Pena took about five kilos and SFM-toimitus two kilos
these delicacies.
