It is summer, and the mosquitos are here, bravo!

Why I say: Mosquitos, bravo!  When mosquitos are flying, it means, that other insects are flying, too. When caddisflies and mayflies are hatching, it is the time, when a flyfisherman enjoys his life. You can already see nice hatches in Southern Finland rivers and lakes. Step by step this insectlife wakes up in Eastern Finland and Lapland, too. When trouts and graylings have their orgies with hatching insects, a flyfisherman is about in heaven. Norman Maclean tells in his book  "A River Runs Through it", that father, the priest, told to his sons that all the disciples of Christ were fishermen. The boys thought of course,  that the disciples were flyfishermen, and the favorite disciple, John, was of course a dryfly fisherman.

The zander (pikeperch) season is now hottest on the lakes and the sea area. In Finland we have the minimum measure for zanders in 37 cm. This is how the zanders are protected so, that at least once in their lifetime they have possibility to spawn. A lot of my friends have made their own limit up to 40 cm. The law says, that it is illegal to have and keep a fish under the limit. This is always, even if the fish is hurt and bleeding, You have  to put it back to the water. If You are fishing zanders in Finland, put a 37 cm mark on your rod, then it is easy to check fishes.

Catch and release is a good idea, when You do it reasonably. Pitty, there are nowadays groups, who have made of C&R the only, right way to fish. Same time these C&R religion people take their own rules to waters: We can fish where we want and when we want, because we do not kill fishes. This kind of attitude makes conflicts with local people and holiday house owners.

Let us enjoy this summer making quality fishing in the rivers, lakes and the sea. Let us enjoy delicate fish foods. And let us allow other people to enjoy this summer, too!
