      Finland Is Thousand

Kilometers Long From
         South To North

S
ituating between 60th and 70th northern latitudes Finland has a lot to give to a fisher. In springtime You can choose between summertime and wintertime fishing activities. When in south it is almost summer, in Lapland winter still goes strong! It is possible to fish in even three seasons of the year at the same time in various parts of Finland.

Mars is in normal winters still time to icefish everywhere in Finland. In western parts of Aland it is anyhow possible to fish seatrouts in open waters even all year round. Mars is the time, when flyfishermen begin their season in rivers in Central Finland. Stonefly hatches can make trouts crazy. Then it is possible to enjoy the first dryfly sessions of the year.

Icefishing perches, zanders and pikes is effective and fun in southern parts of the country to mid of mars, the ices are still safe to move on.  First open waters in the Baltic Sea appear in streaming places like under the bridges and straits. These are the hot spots of fishing whitefishes with worm baits. First open waters are the golden time for seatroutfishing, too. Later in April it is possible to catch mighty pikes. Baltic herring and zanders are the delicate catches in april and May.

In Lapland it is possible to icefish even in late may. Up in the arctic mountains the lakes hold their icecover even to the mid of June. Graylings, arctic chars and wild trouts make icefisher's life exiting. If You go icefishing up in the arctic hills, take an extra part for Your icedrill. The ice can be over one meter thick. The sun is up almost 24 hours. Sunglasses and protection lotion are absolutely neccessary, when fishing up in the hills!
